How to Save TikTok Drafts to Your Phone Gallery
TikTok drafts are tricky: they live only inside the TikTok app on the phone where you created them — they are not posts, have no links, and no online downloader can reach them. So the standard 'paste the link' method does not apply here. The good news: there are reliable ways to get a draft out of TikTok and into your gallery. Here they are, from simplest to most bulletproof.
Method 1: Post privately, then save (recommended)
- Open TikTok, go to your profile, and open Drafts. Select the draft you want to export.
- Tap Next until you reach the posting screen. Under 'Who can watch this video', choose 'Only me'. This posts it privately — nobody else can see it.
- Before posting, check for a 'Save to device' or similar option on the posting screen and enable it if present. Then post.
- Once posted as private, open the video and use TikTok's save option, or copy its link and download it via apiproai.com like any normal video.
- Delete the private post afterward if you do not want it sitting on your profile. Your gallery copy stays.
More methods and warnings
- Method 2: screen record. Play the draft full-screen and record your screen (Control Center on iPhone, Quick Settings on Android). Quality is slightly lower, but it always works and needs no posting.
- Method 3: TikTok's own 'Save video' on the draft edit screen — some versions of the app offer it directly before posting. Worth checking first.
- Do not trust third-party 'draft saver' apps. They cannot access your drafts either (drafts have no public link), so anything claiming to is either useless or malicious.
- Drafts do not sync between devices and vanish if you log out, reinstall, or switch phones. Export anything important now — 'I will do it later' is how drafts die.
- Online downloaders like xi only work with posted videos that have links. If someone tells you a website can pull your drafts, that is false.
- Before using the private-post method, double-check the draft's audio: if TikTok muted the sound after you saved the draft, the exported video will be silent too — swap the sound before exporting.
- Exported a draft you plan to re-edit later? Keep the private-post version as well as the gallery copy — the posted file preserves TikTok's encoding exactly.
Frequently asked questions
Can an online downloader save my TikTok drafts?
No. Drafts are stored locally in the app and have no public URL, so link-based downloaders cannot reach them. You have to export via the app itself.
Will posting as 'Only me' notify my followers?
No. Private ('Only me') videos do not appear in feeds or notify anyone. It is the standard workaround creators use.
I switched phones and my drafts are gone. Can I recover them?
Almost certainly not — drafts live on the old device only. If you still have the old phone, export them before wiping it.
Does screen recording a draft reduce quality?
Slightly, versus the original file. For most purposes it is fine; for maximum quality use the private-post method.
Are 'TikTok draft downloader' apps safe?
No. They ask for permissions or logins they do not need and cannot deliver what they promise. Delete them.
